Why have Churches avoided Politics?”

The major reason that churches avoid politics is that they don’t trust in God and they give in to fear. Churches have avoided getting involved in politics for 3minor reasons.

Fear of losing their non profit status.

Fear of losing a large part of their congregation.

Fear of the government.

Fear of laxing their non profit status.

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity.

However, the Constitution states that “

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

That is why the TRS chooses to forget about enforcing that part of the code. Therefore, there is almost no danger of a church losing its non profit standing.

For instance, if a church asks its congregation to pray for certain candidates, it would be protected by the Constitution since praying for someone is what a church does.

Fear of losing a large part of their congregation.

If the church supports a Democratic candidate, the Republicans will be unhappy. If the church supports a Republican candidate, the Democrats will be unhappy. This may result in a church losing some of its congregation.

Fear of the government.

Instead of trusting God, some churches place their trust in the government for fear tthat it may be doing the right thing. A good example is CoVid-19. When the government said grocery stores could remain open, but churches had to close. Most churches closed.

Don’t you think that a church would trust in God to protect the people in church equal to or even m ore than the people in a grocery store. Wouldn’t God want the people to have a choice to go to church.

In is time for churches to get involved and to help get Godly candidates elected.

It is time to make America Godly again.
